Over 120 US Venues and Counting Announced for 2020

The third US edition of Independent Venue Week will take place July 6-12 with over 120 venues confirmed and counting

Venues are still welcome to apply to participate in this year’s edition of Independent Venue Week

Returning for its third iteration in the US, Independent Venue Week has announced the first round of confirmed venues for its 2020 edition. Taking place from July 6-12over 120 independently owned venues in 70 cities spanning 32 states have already confirmed their participation in a week of venue-curated shows celebrating their invaluable role as pillars of artistic community and connection. The still-growing list of participating venues can be found below.

Founded in the UK by Sybil Bell in 2014 to highlight these incredible spaces and featured in Long and Winding Road, a documentary on the UK’s independent music venues featuring Radiohead drummer Philip Selway, the US event has grown rapidly from its first edition in 2018. Participation has soared from 20 venues in its first year, 83 venues in its second, to well over 100 participating venues – and counting – in the upcoming third edition. “Looking at the number of venues signing up this year for Independent Venue Week in the US is incredibly exciting,” says Bell, who wrapped up the seventh UK iteration of Independent Venue Week yesterday, “Venues across both territories, and in fact, around the world have such a huge role to play in the development of artists and crew as well as local and national culture. I can’t wait to come back to the US again this year, visiting new venues and communities around the country and sharing in the rich live music scene.”

The American edition of Independent Venue Week is produced by Marauder. Managing partner Rev. Moose predicts even deeper community engagement in the 2020 event after two years of meteoric growth. “Last year’s edition of Independent Venue Week saw 488 artists play in front of 35,000 fans across 83 venues,” Moose says, “With the number of venues and promoters that are already confirmed for this July, it will be rewarding to see this initiative reach even more fans. We are particularly excited that several independent promoters will be joining us this year. We are unendingly grateful to the partners that have helped us shine light on these business leaders in their own communities.”

Eventbrite has returned as the event’s exclusive ticketing partner. “Independent music venues and promoters need our support year-round, but it’s moments like Independent Venue Week that contribute significantly to a boost in awareness with fans while also shining a light on the challenges the industry is up against,” says Andy Donner, SVP of Music and Corporate Development at Eventbrite, “I’m proud that Eventbrite is partnering with Independent Venue Week for the third year running. Go see live music!” Livestreaming technology company Big Room and Ascend Insurance Brokerage join Eventbrite as the first partners announced for the 2020 event.
