{"id":1915,"date":"2021-06-11T11:17:58","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T11:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/independentvenueweek.com\/us\/2021\/06\/11\/independent-venue-week-endorses-audience-access-alliance-accessible-re-opening-checklist\/"},"modified":"2021-06-11T11:17:58","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T11:17:58","slug":"independent-venue-week-endorses-audience-access-alliance-accessible-re-opening-checklist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/independentvenueweek.com\/us\/2021\/06\/11\/independent-venue-week-endorses-audience-access-alliance-accessible-re-opening-checklist\/","title":{"rendered":"Independent Venue Week Endorses Audience Access Alliance Accessible Re-Opening Checklist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Independent Venue Week\u00a0urges industry to check reopening plans against 10-point checklist to ensure Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent\u00a0audiences\/fans\/consumers\u00a0are not left behind.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Independent Venue Week\u00a0is today calling on the UK\u2019s\u00a0<strong>insert relevant industry or \u2018venues and events\u2019 etc<\/strong>\u00a0to check their reopening plans against a 10-point checklist published by the cross-sector Audience Access Alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Audience Access Alliance, founded by music and event industry accessibility charity\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.attitudeiseverything.org.uk\/\">Attitude is Everything<\/a>, is made up of a cross-sector\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.attitudeiseverything.org.uk\/about-us\/campaigns\/audience-access-alliance\/members\">coalition of 13 disability and accessibility organisations and networks<\/a>\u00a0all united in working to remove barriers for audiences across the UK or in devolved nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Designed to apply to any venue or event, from football clubs and outdoor festivals to heritage sites, music venues, tourist attractions and theatres, the cross-sector 10-point list enshrines the key understandings and policies that need to be in place for reopening to be accessible for Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse people, regardless of the setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accessible Reopening Checklist<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any venue or event reopening to the public should be able to say \u201cyes\u201d to these things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>We agree that every person has the right to assess their own level of risk.<\/li><li>People can find facts on our website about accessibility and COVID safety to make informed decisions.<\/li><li>If we have tickets on sale, Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people can arrange the access they need.<\/li><li>No one is advised against visiting our event or venue.<\/li><li>No one will be challenged about their \u2018risk status\u2019 at our entrance due to a perceived \u2018vulnerability\u2019.<\/li><li>Attendees are not expected to bring a doctor\u2019s note if unable to wear a mask.<\/li><li>Our COVID safety measures are accessible for everyone.<\/li><li>Our street furniture does not obstruct accessible parking or access routes for attendees or pedestrians.<\/li><li>Our staff have been trained in disability awareness and understand our access provision and COVID-safety measures.<\/li><li>We are committed to listening to Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people and engaging with any new audiences gained online during lockdown.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.attitudeiseverything.org.uk\/about-us\/campaigns\/audience-access-alliance\/accessible-reopening-resources\">Accessible reopening and good practice resources from Audience Access Alliance members.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.attitudeiseverything.org.uk\/about-us\/campaigns\/audience-access-alliance\/members\">Find out more about Audience Access Alliance members here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>This brilliant initiative from the Audience Access Alliance is so important and timely.
