Butcher Brown & The Camel on ‘Independent Venue Speak’

The final ‘Independent Venue Speak’ episode of the year is live! Tune into another great story on the symbiosis between artists and independent venues, highlighting The Camel in Richmond, VA, told by owner Lucas Fritz and a band that has quite literally grown up in the space.

Hailing from Richmond, VA, Butcher Brown interpolates jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul, and more into their distinct sonic signature. Hosted by multi-instrumentalist Marcus “Tennishu” Tenney and bassist Andrew Randazzo, this episode delves into the story of how the band and The Camel venue owner Lucas Fritz have matured professionally alongside each other since meeting in college at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Lucas Fritz, co-owner of The Camel and its sister venue, The Broadberry, began working at The Camel as an intern in 2009, starting out with booking bi-weekly VCU jazz showcases. It was at that VCU jazz program that Fritz befriended and began booking the future members of Butcher Brown, a bond strengthened through their respective work at The Camel.
