US Venue Spotlight – City Winery

City Winery will celebrate Independent Venue Week across six cities. With their unique concept that was born in 2006, City Winery now has venues in New York, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Boston, and Washington D.C., with Philadelphia opening later this year.

Founded by Michael Dorf, the City Winery concept was created with the idea of marrying wine and music, catering to wine enthusiasts living in large cities like New York and Chicago. Dorf strived to combine exceptional wine made on the premises, music, and food to create a unique and enjoyable experience for audiences. The mantra of the spaces is all about community, food, music, and art.

The first City Winery opened in 2011; a 30-seater Barrell Room in New York. Eight years later, venues based on that same idea exist in six major US cities. After the opening of The Barrell Room, the reputation of City Winery went from strength to strength with a 32,000 square foot winery opening in Chicago a year later. To this day, City Winery exists as one of the most unique venue concepts in the country.

Artists that have played across the City Winery venues include Andrew Bird, David Byrne, Josh Ritter, Martha Wainwright, Mavis Staples, Patti Smith, Paul Brady, Rufus Wainwright, and many more.
