The Scala [Merthyr Tydfil]

In 2023, the heart of Merthyr Tydfil welcomed The Scala, a new beacon of music and arts. With a capacity of 250, this modern venue is equipped with an in-house lighting rig, stage, and state-of-the-art PA system, setting the stage for unforgettable performances. The Scala was envisioned primarily as a music venue, dedicated to nurturing independent music and arts. Its inception is a nod to the creative spirits, offering a platform for diverse and vibrant artistic expressions. Housed in the historic Temperance Hall, a landmark since the 1830s, The Scala is steeped in a rich legacy. For nearly two centuries, this building has been a cornerstone of entertainment in Merthyr Tydfil, transitioning from a theatre to a cinema and now, reborn as a hub for live performances. Our investment in The Scala was driven by a passion to revive its storied past. By infusing modern amenities with historical charm, we’ve reignited the building’s role as a center for cultural gatherings and performances. As proud members of the Independent Venue Trust, we are committed to the ethos of independent venues. The Scala stands as a testament to our dedication to preserving and enhancing the cultural fabric of Merthyr Tydfil. The Scala is not just a venue; it’s a revival of a legacy, a place where history and contemporary artistry converge, creating a new chapter in the town’s vibrant entertainment story.
