Wadsworth Community Centre is situated in a hilltop village 600 feet above Hebden Bridge, Calderdale. The Centre is owned by Wadsworth Parish Council who leases it to the Community Association to run as a community centre. Wadsworth Community Association is a charitable organisation established to support the residents of Wadsworth Parish and its immediate neighbourhood. The Association is committed to “advancing education opportunities and to providing facilities for local recreation and social welfare.”
The Community Centre Committee and BGR Events agreed to sign up to IVW. The Centre is used for a wide variety of community activities: school concerts, table tennis, Pilates, private parties etc. The single story Centre has a concert room doubling for many uses, a recently refurbished kitchen, and bar/lounge/dining room where the pensioners’ luncheon club meets. There is a bowling green attached; the Bowling Club using the Centre as a base.
BGR Events is a not-for-profit collaboration between 4 friends who love music. BGR Events promote about 6/7 gigs a year at Wadsworth for a local audience as well as from the surrounding area. The hall holds a maximum of 120 concert style. The gigs are usually folk, roots or blues acts.
The Community Centre makes money on top of the venue rental by drink and real ale sales and pie and peas on gig nights. BGR Events made a donation of £300 to assist in refurbishing costs.
