The Smokehouse [Ipswich]

The Smokehouse is a community focused live music and media venue situated in Ipswich. During the day the venue hosts grant-funded workshops for people from challenging backgrounds, and in the evening it becomes a live music venue with an open and eclectic program curated through hiring out to bands and promoters at nominal costs.

Since opening in October 2016, The Smokehouse now hosts 2-4 gigs a week from local and in-house promoters. Last year The Smokehouse Presents hosted the likes of This Is The Kit, Robyn Hitchcock, Snapped Ankles, The Stroppies, Sink Ya Teeth, Rozi Plain, Deeper and Trash Kit.

With a DIY ethos, the venue is run mostly by volunteers on our gig nights, and provides training and opportunities in sound and lighting, videography, bar and front of house duties.

Based at South Street Studios, the building is shared with Punch Studios an analogue and digital recording studio and IO Radio a youth centred internet radio station.
