Large Plants

3 February 2023 at 8:00 pm

+ Jesus Knievel Large Plants is the post-apocalyptic downer-fuzz-rock side project of Jack Sharp, former singer guitarist from psych-folk luminaries Wolf People. Suddenly without a band and faced with the enforced lockdown of Summer 2020, Jack set up in a friends’ old barn in Bedfordshire and created a tonne of scuzzy, loner, biker-rock. The sound of Large Plants is a shaking invocation of post civilisation dread. An end of the world doom-folk party imbued with the rich vein of bucolic sorrow that Sharp’s vocal never fails to convey. Their first single was described as ‘A fine slice of haunted (and hauntological) folk-rock’ by Uncut, who chose the track for their June cover CD, and the album’s picked up a 5 star review from Shindig Magazine. And their unexpected psychedelic cover of Madonna’s La Isla Bonita is something you never knew you needed to hear, but you do. https://largeplantsband.bandcamp.com/music With special guests Jesus Knievel. A three piece psychedelic alt rock band from Saddleworth and Tameside near Manchester. Members Ste Morris (Guitar), Richie Gradwell (drums) and Pete Smyth (bass) got together in 2007 after playing separately in various indie / rock bands both in the Manchester and London. They wanted to create something different from the run of the mill and got to work writing their own brand of improvised jam based psychedelia. Soon their first self produced album “Toys” was completed and they did their first gigs around Manchester. In the intervening years the band have created two more albums and have continued to gig regularly as well as writing an extensive back catalogue of original material. They are currently recording their fourth album which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. https://jesusknievel.bandcamp.com See less
