Flo Perlin, Daisy Chute and Fern Maddie Triple Bill

4 February 2023 at 8:45 pm

Flo Perlin is a contemporary Folk singer- songwriter from London with Iraqi and Belarusian heritage. With musical influences ranging from Zero 7 and Avishai Cohen to Laura Marling and Erykah Badu, Flo has dedicated her creativity to music that is meaningful to her. She released her new album Characters last year. Her lyrics are articulate, and the music original and mesmerising, showing how contemporary folk music is evolving. Daisy Chute is an American-Scottish folk singer and songwriter. A banjo-wielding multi-instrumentalist, her musical roots are born out of her transatlantic heritage and she writes award-winning intelligent songs with stories, performing them with spine-tingling vocals & intricate instrumentation. Whilst still at school Daisy self-released a jazz record and then signed to Universal/Decca as one quarter and lead vocalist of multiple platinum selling band All Angels. A mix of Celtic, American, Classical and Jazz backgrounds has since seen her feature across Film/TV/Game soundtracks ranging from The Sims 4, Tomb Raider, Shaun The Sheep the movie, 47 Ronin and Yesterday to David Attenborough documentaries (A Perfect Planet) and Radiohead albums (session vocalist on A Moon Shaped Pool). Fern Maddie is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and experimental folk artist based in Central Vermont (N’Dakinna). Her debut EP, North Branch River, was named one of the 10 best Vermont records of 2020 by Seven Days. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, her debut album, Ghost Story, was released in 2022, and was named The Guardian’s Folk Album of the Month in July 2022, gaining a five-star review. Blending driving, trancey instrumentals with crisp vocals and the simple lyrical rhythms of old folk songs, Fern’s unique sound is the child of many influences: Old-Time string band music, the revivalist balladeers of the 60s and 70s, dark country, experimental folk-rock, and the modern trad renaissance(s). Her sound has been compared to June Tabor, Kate Rusby, Sharon Van Etten, and Joni Mitchell. Her work as grown over the past three years through collaboration with Colin McCaffrey, a legend in the Vermont folk scene. Colin co-produced both of Fern’s records.
