On The Road with Independent Venue Week now available on BBC iPlayer

We’re over the moon that our feature-length documentary, taking you behind the scenes of some of the most iconic and much loved grassroots music venues in the country, is now available on BBC iPlayer.

If like us, you’re feeling nostalgic about gigs, now feels like a poignant time to reflect on the passion, love, creativity and sense of community that comes from live music in these very special places.

On The Road with Independent Venue Week takes you on a very special journey into independent music venues across the country, meeting those who work & play in them.

The 90 minute documentary, shot over two years, takes you behind the scenes with some of the amazing people who make these shows happen, week in and week out.

The film takes in shows and interviews from IVW 18 as well as following Philip Selway (Radiohead) as he went on his own tour during IVW19. There are interviews, gigs and his own tour diary as he meets venue owners, musicians, crew and gig-goers sharing their love for live music and the ways in which independent venues mean so much to them.

Artists interviews with Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Adrian Utley (Portishead), Fatboy Slim, Nadine Shah, Gaz Coombes, IDLES, Novelist, Richard Hawley, Talk Show, Pip Blom, Big Jeff

Venue interviews with Paul “Jacko” Jackson from The New Adelphi Club (Hull), Jeff Horton from The 100 Club (London), Nathan Clark of the Brudenell Social Club (Leeds) , Mal Campbell from Trades Club (Hebden Bridge), Dom Fraser at The Boileroom (Guildford),  Tom Maddicott from Moles Club (Bath), Rebecca Walker of The Leadmill (Sheffield), Shelia Ravenscroft of The John Peel Centre (Stowmarket), Adam and Vic at The Met (Bury), Sophie Asquith at Bush Hall (London) and Nik Sharpe at The Cookie (Leicester)

As well as the documentary, you can watch the Q&A we recorded straight after the online premiere in January for IVW, with Philip, Adrian Utley (Portishead), Dom Fraser at The Boileroom (Guildford),  Rebecca Walker of The Leadmill (Sheffield), Nathan Clark of the Brudenell Social Club (Leeds), Big Jeff (Bristol), Sybil Bell (IVW Founder) hosted by BBC 6 Music Matt Everitt.

As we finalised the edit of the film, we became incredibly emotional watching so many people hugging, smiling, laughing, dancing and enjoying live music together in packed venues.

We’re counting the weeks until we can do it all again #OTRIVW

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our supporters, the documentary would not have been possible without them.
