US Venue Spotlight – New York, NY – SOBs

Sounds of Brazil, known as SOBs, is a legendary venue in SoHo on Manhattan that opened in 1982. The original premise of the venue was to expose the music and culture of the Afro-Latino Diaspora to New York audiences. Owner Larry Gold’s mission soon succeeded, and the venue is in existence almost forty years later.

Today, SOBs hosts shows and events every night of the week and has branched out. Huge names such as Kendrick Lamar, David Byrne, Boy Pablo, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Icon for Hire, and many more have graced the space throughout the years. Still, the venue stands by its commitment to promoting Afro-Latino artists with weekly events such as Caribbean Saturdays, a Bossa Soul Brunch, and regular performances from a range of artists. They work with several local promoters to create the most diverse and unique experiences possible. The venue strongly advocates participation from all sorts of local creatives such as photographers, videographers, and musicians.

SOBs’ restaurant carries lots of delicious food from all over the world, and the SOBs Yacht Club, their Infinity Ship, holds exceptional live shows during the warmer months.
