US Venue Spotlight – Burlington, VT – Higher Ground

Established twenty-one years ago, Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont has hosted an array of the best artists across two stellar rooms since 1998. The home of both The Ballroom and the Showcase Lounge, the venue hosts shows every night of the week with an eclectic range of popular local and international artists.

A great deal of time and thought was put into the design and acoustics of this venue. The Higher Ground team looked for innovative ways of reusing local materials to bring the venue to life. They reclaimed tall columns from the local Norwich University, took chandeliers from an old municipal building, and the bar tops were originally bowling alley lanes from an old bowling alley! This creative use of materials makes the venue that little bit more special within the community.

All of the ceilings in the venue have been sprayed with a special sonic material called K-13 that enhances the acoustics making for exceptional performances at Higher Ground.

Artists that have played Higher Ground include Nils Frahm, Andy Shauf, Kurt Vile, Ty Segall, George Clinton, Tune-Yards, Khruangbin, Frank Turner, Sylvan Esso, Toots & The Maytals, Alvvays, Fleet Foxes, Yo La Tengo, Jeff Tweedy, Hippo Campus, Kamasi Washington, and many more.
