US Venue Spotlight – New York, NY – Arlene’s Grocery

Arlene’s Grocery located in New York’s Lower East Side is one of this year’s most unique venues. The space started as a bodega and a butcher shop which, remains evident from its eye-catching vintage grocery store exterior.

It was opened as a live music venue in 1995 and was one of the first music clubs in the area. The venue fits a little more than 100 people, making for great sound and intimate experiences. Seconds into a show, you will sense how powerful the sound is.

Wholly supportive of local bands and nurturing music, one of its most notable initiatives are the Five-dollar Rock Shows, regular showcases held in the venue that features several up and coming bands in one night. Arlene’s is also home to some staple New York events such as a weekly collaborative jam session from NYC band The Lesson and New York’s oldest Rock n’ Roll Party F* Bomb hosted monthly. The venue also houses a gallery space for local artists.

Artists that have graced the stage at Arlene’s include: Lana Del Rey, Arcade Fire, The Bravery, Deitre, Tempt, The Stollers,  BAD KITTY, The Nomadic, Ode to Kitty, Joshua Lutz band, and many more.
