US VENUE SPOTLIGHT – Seattle, WA – The Crocodile

Few American music venues are as storied and beloved as The Crocodile in Seattle. Since it opened its doors in 1991, music fans far and wide have come to recognize this Belltown neighborhood fixture as Seattle’s ultimate music hotspot.

Known to locals as “the Croc,” The Crocodile quickly became a leading venue for both local bands and famous touring stars upon opening. The venue was central in the meteoric rise of Seattle’s grunge scene in the ‘90s, when it hosted legendary shows with local heroes such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Tad, Mad Season, and Sunny Day Real Estate

On one particularly historic night in October 1992, The Crocodile hosted a Mudhoney show during which concert-goers were expecting to see an unknown support act, only to be surprised with an appearance by Nirvana—easily the most famous band in the world at that point and (obviously) especially revered on their Seattle hometurf.

To this day, The Crocodile hosts a vast range of upcoming local, national, and international artists of all thinkable genres. Additionally, their Back Bar has become a neighborhood favorite, offering food, drinks, and entertainment every night of the week.

Needless to say, we are excited for Seattle to join us in celebrating The Crocodile’s rich history and independence when they host Phoebe Bridgers as part of the first ever American edition of Independent Venue Week on July 12!
